In an effort to raise awareness and drive much-needed support for rangers from policy-makers and government agencies around the world, we worked with re:wild (previously Global Wildlife Conservation) to create one of the 5 animated explainer videos in their Ranger Animated Series.
The Ranger Animated Series offers a glimpse into the broad scope of ranger life and impact – who they are, what they do, why it matters – and how we, as citizens of the planet, can support, honor, and empower the wildlife frontline. We worked with the re:wild team along with 4 other animation teams around the globe to produce an impactful narration rooted in global ranger research. Below is Episode 5 of the series - The Ranger Solution.
Design & Animation: Kari Pieterse & Margaret To
Music: Habitaat Music
Voiceover: Edward Norton
Production & Social Engagement: Arnelle Lozada
With this digital collage style, we want to capture the essence of rangers
— their critical work, multiple roles, and gender and ethnic diversity —
through real-life photography. The vibrant geometric shapes and
cutout elements help make the story more personable and demonstrate
the issue in a positive way. We also aim to help our audience understand
the stats and economic impact of rangers through graphical data
visualization.
Our episode explains what the Global Ranger Action plan is, how the plan ensures that Rangers have what they need to protect natural resources, strengthen communities, and ensure equality and equity in the field, and support wildlife conservation. We researched and read about different rangers' profiles, experiences, and rangers' challenges across the globe to convey the need for supporting and funding the Global Ranger Action plan.
The Ranger Animated Series is now available on Re:wild's YouTube channel and URSA (Universal Ranger Support Alliance)'s website. It is raising awareness about the diversity of rangers, the multiple roles rangers play, and their critical role in protecting the planet, driving much-needed support to their work by policymakers and government agencies.
