Get Inspired | Ocean Restoration

In this video, we learn about an ocean conservation nonprofit and its community-based restoration efforts along the Orange County coast.

Purpose

Get Inspired is a nonprofit in Orange County working to restore the kelp forest ecosystem by teaching the community hands-on science and restoration. From classroom aquaponic programs to conducting abalone surveys with their dive team, they are working to inspire ocean stewards to protect our vulnerable coastal and marine ecosystems. We worked with marine biologist Nancy Caruso to produce this animated short highlighting their initiatives, and showcasing the citizen scientists that their programs have nurtured over the years to potential donors, volunteers, and policymakers.

Visual Treatment

We developed a mixed-media style using playful illustrations to complement the underwater footage and photography from the Get Inspired team. The goal is to showcase the beautiful marine ecosystems in a realistic way (animating photo cutouts of kelp forests, kelp crab, green abalone, etc.) and  adding illustrative elements to connect the overall story.
